1. Verify that the key and certificate have the same modulus. If these don’t match EXACTLY, then you are using the wrong key and certificate:
    • openssl x509 -noout -modulus -in /path/to/crt
    • openssl rsa -check -noout -modulus -in /path/to/key
  2. Verify that the key has the correct permissions (should be 600):
    • ls -al /path/to/key
  3. Verify the paths in the Apache configuration file match the location of the cert, key, and pem
  4. Verify mod_ssl is installed
    • httpd -M | grep ssl
  5. Verify you grabbed the correct CA Bundle and that the file does not end with “.txt”
  6. Verify the certificate is for the correct domain
    • openssl x509 -noout -subject -in /path/to/crt
